Old carpet keeps in heat & damp.
The Friends built a composting area at the back of the garden using recycled wood.
We feel that a good composting regime will enable us to put some organic matter into the soil.
Although we were pleasantly surprised by the soil we found when we started to dig over the garden we realise that it was originally a coal pit and we will need to work hard to improve the soil.
There is a wealth of organic matter being dug up and we are composting anything we think is suitable. We have begged some old carpet and have covered over the compost pit to help the compost decay.
